TAMHSC ISS Downlink with Astronaut Dr. Serena Auñón-Chancellor
Dr. Pooneh Bagher was a panelist for the “Live from Space” downlink with the International Space Station. Astronaut Dr. Serena Auñón-Chancellor answered questions from students and trainees at the Texas A&M University College of Medicine. Watch the event here! Panelists included Drs. Megan Wood, DVM, MPH Joins the Team!
The Bagher Lab would like to welcome Dr. Megan Wood, DVM, MPH to the team! Dr. Wood is a Veterinary Resident in the Comparative Medicine Program at Texas A&M University having just completed her DVM and MPH at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Pooneh Bagher presented data at the American Society of Gravitational and Space Research in ‘The effects of microgravity on the cardiovascular system’ session. The talk was entitled Spaceflight induces subtle changes in mouse coronary artery function and featured data collected as part of the Rodent Research-9 mission.

Norm Frederick defends MS Thesis
Norm Frederick of the Bagher Lab defended his MS thesis entitled, “The Effect of Spaceflight on the Murine Basilar Artery,” about his work as part of the Rodent Research-9 mission. He will soon be moving on to greener pastures.
TAMU Departmental Visits
Dr. Pooneh Bagher recently spoke at both the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology Seminar Series and The Exercise Science Seminar Series. These talks were entitled, “Effects of Spaceflight on Vascular Function: Lessons from Rodent Research,” and detailed the labs work for NASA on Rodent Research-9.
World Congress of Microcirculation
Dr. Pooneh Bagher recently attended the World Congress of Microcirculation in Vancouver. Dr. Bagher co-chaired a session entitled “Dynamic Calcium Control in the Vessel Wall” with Dr. Swapnil Sonkusare from University of Virginia (pictured above).
Dr. Bagher presented a talk entitled, “Endothelial Cell Calcium: Location, Location, Location” and also spoke in “The Power of Efficient Networking” Lunch and Learn Session.
Dr. Pooneh Bagher Receives an AHA Career Development Award
Dr. Pooneh Bagher has been awarded an American Heart Association Career Development Award. This three year award will be completed under the mentorship of Dr. Lih Kuo, and will involve examining vascular defects underlying diabetes.
