Dr. Rutkowski was originally trained as a chemical engineer (fuel & energy engineering focus, actually), but was always interested in mammalian physiology. As the research and training progressively pushed from microcirculation to endocrinology to basic biology, the engineering principles of solid and fluid mechanics were not left behind. As such, the current group brings together researchers from a broad background, each complementing the lab as a whole. It is a joy to teach and for engineers to learn biological methods and future med students to learn some equations.
