Laganowsky Lab

Welcome to our laboratory website

We are interested in the interaction of membrane proteins with lipids, and how these interactions influence their structure and function. Understanding the function of membrane proteins on the molecular level still remains a challenge and, in most cases, requires extensive efforts in the design and modification of protein targets. Native ion mobility mass spectrometry of intact protein complexes has emerged as a powerful technique to study the stoichiometry, structure-function and dynamics of protein assemblies.  We have pioneered novel ion mobility mass spectrometry approaches to study membrane proteins and their interactions with lipid/drug molecules. Our work has been published in Nature with Prof. Laganowsky’s artwork featured on the cover of the journal, and recently in JACS. Our laboratory works at the interface between X-ray crystallography and ion mobility mass spectrometry. We believe that this unique combination of skills places our laboratory in an excellent position not only to investigate the molecular implications for disease and biological function of protein assemblies but towards drug discovery.
